Semi-trailers

Semi-trailers are trailers without a front axle. Cargo load partially transferred to the tractor through the hitch (most often saddle).

Trailers mostly equipped with lodgment upon which the front part of the semitrailer is placed in uncoupled state.

The commercial use of semitrailers has several advantages over trailers. Thus, coupling and uncoupling of trailers goes fast enough, which saves time of the carrier when loading and unloading.

In the event of a tractor breakdown cargo can be delivered by another tractor, without the need for loading and unloading to another vehicle. Tractor-trailer hitch is more maneuverable than a truck with a rigid frame. The longer loads can be transported in semi-trailers.

As a rule, semi-trailers have 2 or 3 axles. Semi-trailers are often equipped with lift-axles to reduce tire wear in the unloaded state.
