Kögel delivers first Big-MAXX Cool in Czech Republic

German trailer manufacturer Kögel has delivered a first extended refrigerated Big-MAXX Cool semi-trailer (14,90 m long), in the Czech Republic, to Delimax at Hodonin. The Czech Republic authorises the operation of long vehicles thanks to permanent exemptions accorded by the domestic traffic authorities. This semi-trailer can carry a total of 36 pallets and has an interior height of 2.65 m. www.koegel.com

Stronger checks on tachographs

The European Commission has just adopted a series of measures destined to strengthen checks in the domain of working and rest times for drivers. The modifications which have been applied to directive 2006/22/CE and to European regulation 3821/85 principally involve national checking authorities, which are required to obtain more powerful technical equipment. The new Commission regulation in particular sets out the use of an adaptor for light vehicles, incomprtible with certain tachographs. www.truckeurope.net

Large order for MAN in Saudi Arabia

MAN is to deliver 168 trucks from its TGA-WW range to Saudi milk group Almarai. The order involves 141 2-axle TGA 19.440 tractor units and 27 2-axle TGA 18.480 tractor units. Delivery is set for February 2009. www.man-mn.com

Volvo Trucks production site in Russia

Volvo Trucks has inaugurated a new production site at Kaluga in Russia. The manufacturer has explained that this coincides with new Russian taxes on imported vehicles. Volvo Trucks had already opened a CKD factory at Zelenograd 6 years ago with a capacity of 500 HGV’s per year. The new installation will produce vehicles for Russia and neighbouring countries in the CIS. The new factory has a capacity of 10,000 Volvo and 5,000 Renault trucks. www.volvo.com

Krone presents TransGuard anti-theft system

Trailer manufacturer Krone has developed an anti-theft system called TransGuard in collaboration with telematics specialist Idem and security specialist I-protect. This system will enable the transporter to survey and protect his vehicle at distance. TransGuard blocks the wheels in the parking position and locks the electronic locks on the vehicle. To dock the trailer or open a door, a code is required. www.truckeurope.net
