A new VOLVO truck model, sales of which have started in Europe in August, is equipped with a 9-litre engine which meets the requirements of EURO-6. This truck is designed for the operations that require frequent stops (for example, in order to collect refuse). VOLVO FE CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) is a perfect variant for work in urban areas. The advantage of this new truck is that it is less environmentally harmful as opposed to diesel-powered vehicles. By the way, the new VOLVO FE, working on methane, emits 70% of carbon dioxide less than the rest of the vehicles operating on diesel.
Methane gas is a name for biogas and natural gas. Biogas is a renewable source of energy and it occurs when bacteria decompose organic material. It should be mentioned that the use of methane that is practically odorless when combusted is a kind of an innovation. However the representatives of VOLVO are sure that methane will become the most popular and stable alternative source of energy in the long run.
Energy and torque produced also deserve some attention to be paid: it’s about 320 hp and 1356 Nm of torque. The renovated VOLVO FE truck offers the same stability and efficiency as the conventional VOLVO FE. 6-speed automatic transmission provides high maneuverability and productivity. What else is needed to ensure excellent implementation of refuse collecting in urban areas?
