As part of its "Shaping Future Transportation 2015 - Campus Efficiency" program Mercedes-Benz presented its latest truck engine OM 471. The German auto group has always been a leader in automobile innovation, and the new engine has become the embodiment of the most advanced ideas of the engineers. The engine complies with stringent emissions standards in Europe and America. Mercedes-Benz invested about 60 million Euro for the enhancement of this platform.
Engineers and designers of Mercedes-Benz were able to increase the efficiency of the engine by modifying its mounts. According to surveys the determining factor when choosing a truck is its fuel consumption, so the aim was to reduce the fuel consumption of the engine. The engine offers fuel savings of up to 3% compared to its predecessor that reduces CO2 emissions into the atmosphere as well. It has been estimated that with the average mileage of a vehicle around 130,000 km/year about 1,100 liters of fuel will be saved. The German auto group is planning to use this model of the engine not only in trucks but also in buses.
Since July 6 there is an opportunity to order Actros trucks equipped with the new engine OM 471. And from August Setra TopClass coaches and the Mercedes-Benz Travego will be fitted with the new engine as well.
