Volvo Trucks is getting ready to showcase its new Euro 6-compliant 4x2 FE-320 CNG-fuelled rigid alongside a tailor-made FM-500 8x4 ‘City Tipper’ at Freight in the City Expo 2016. The one-day show will take place on 2nd November at Alexandra Palace in London to demonstrate new solutions for sustainable urban deliveries.
The gas powered Euro-6 FE CNG truck features Volvo G9K, 6-cylinder in-line, 4-stroke spark-ignition engine with an output of 320hp. Other specifications include water-cooled, waste-gate turbocharger and stoichiometric, cooled exhaust gas recirculation combustion (aka SEGR) as well as exhaust after-treatment. The undeniable advantage of using the G9K engine is that the CO2 emissions of a CNG power unit are some 20% less than those of a diesel engine. The new FE CNG is offers quiet, efficient and low-emission operation to satisfy the needs of waste collection and recycling businesses working in the urban environment.
What concerns the FM ‘City Tipper', its purpose is to follow the tradition of reliable service, offered by quality Volvo tipper trucks, and to apply it to urban construction projects. In this regard, the truck is designed to guarantee safety for vulnerable road users (pedestrians and cyclists). It features a lower window in the passenger door and a forward facing camera system. Additionally, a lower driver position is available as an option.
