DAF strengthens market growth in all directions

2016 was quite a successful year for DAF Trucks. The company continued to further increase its European as well as global market shares.

As of Europe, DAF strengthened the brand’s position in the heavy segment by 0.9% to 15.5%. The ongoing success is stimulated by the total market growth. The number of heavy trucks sold increased from 269,000 in 2015 to 302,500 in 2016 (by over 12%).

Under such conditions, the Dutch manufacturer managed to set an all-time record for the number of DAF heavy trucks, registered in Europe (over 46,700 vehicles). The record figure represents a 19% increase compared to 2015 registrations. It’s no surprise that DAF has retained market leadership in the Netherlands (31.9%). Other top markets include the UK (29.2%), Poland (19.4%) and Hungary (25.8%). Besides, DAF also became the market leader in Bulgaria with the market share of 20.4%.

In almost all other major European markets DAF realized expansion of its market position. The best result was shown by DAF trucks in Belgium (19.1%).

The growth outside the European Union was encouraged by the brand’s entrance into the UAE, a new company-owned subsidiary in Turkey, the first year of production of the PACCAR MX-13 engine in Brazil, and the favourable position in Taiwan.
