About swap body containers
High flexibility is a key point in goods delivery. There is a range of logistic systems to achieve the required level of service. One of such systems is a horizontal transfer technology with a swap body as a basic element. The advantage of the technology is that it avoids using a crane at all the routing points. And the advantage of a swap body is that it can be easily detached from a chassis and placed on the supporting legs folded down under their frame.
The most widespread models of swap bodies in Europe are equipped with BDF system (the BDF is the name of the German federal long-distance haulage association). This is a great way to save time significantly during cargo handling. It takes only 5 minutes to replace a swap body with another container. That is why this equipment is so popular.
A BDF apparatus holds the swap body on the chassis. The pneumatic suspension raises and lowers the vehicle to specific heights. When the swap body is in the raised position, it is supported by 4 up-folding legs at its sides. Then, the vehicle is lowered and it can pull out from underneath the container.
As in case of trailers and semi-trailers there are different kinds of swap bodies:
- curtainsider;
- isothermal;
- refrigerator;
- tipper;
- tanks, etc.
