The plowing implements from Europe

Plows belong to one of the key farming implements, used for initial cultivation of soil during primary tillage. Hitched to a motor vehicle, a plow breaks up the soil and cuts furrows in preparation for sowing seed. By turning over the soil, plows allow fresh nutrients to penetrate the surface, as well as remove weeds and the remains of former crops. Thus, the soil is prepared for the following stage of farming operations – secondary tillage.

Types of plows

Plowing solves several tasks: opens a loosening up soil, increases the amount of water that can be held in the soil, etc. Depending on the primary purpose of plowing, different types of plows are distinguished:

• moldboard plow;
• chisel plow;
• ridge plow;
• disc plow.
