Stahlworks Tiller
Also known as a rotary tiller, a rotavator is a type of motorized cultivator that can be pulled by hand or a tractor. It consists of a long, horizontal body with a rotating row of blades/teeth that dig into the soil, churning and aerating it as the rotavator moves along it. This process prepares the ground for seeding or laying down turf.
Different Types of Rotavators
Rotavators are typically classified under three categories. Each is ideally suited for different applications and agricultural needs:
- Light duty: These are small enough to be either pushed by hand or pulled by a small vehicle, like an ATV. Light rotavators are also typically powered by a built-in petrol engine. They are ideal for gardens and vegetable patches.
- Medium duty: These are suitable for larger patches of land, although not full-scale agricultural farming. They are robust enough to prepare uncultivated soil and to operate under more demanding conditions than light-duty rotavators.
- Heavy duty: These rotavators typically range from 3 to 7 feet or longer in width. They are either petrol-powered or run on a PTO line from a tractor. They are suitable for soil cultivation in large-scale agriculture.
