Iveco (derived from “Industrial Vehicles Corporation") is an auto-group from Italy, producing civil trucks and buses, as well as special and military vehicles. The main office is located in Turin. The auto-group was set up in 1974 as a result of the incorporation of the subdivisions of Fiat Industrial Vehicles (Turin, Italy), OM (Brescia, Italy), Lancia Special Vehicles (Bolzano, Italy), Unic (Trappes, France) and Magirus-Deutz (Ulm, Germany). The Iveco Daily truck with the gross weight of 2,9-4,9 tons, released in 1978, became the first result of the cooperation. Afterwards this truck came into mass production. During the entire period of its existence the company has managed to diversify the range of the production, so it started to manufacture LCVs and medium duty trucks, as well as freight trucks and diesel power plants. Besides, Iveco entered the market of military and special vehicles. Nowadays Iveco is an international corporation, possessing 49 plants and an advanced dealer network in 19 countries. The trucks are assembled under license in the following states: Argentine, Turkey, Egypt, Iran, Lybia, Venezuela, Chile, Ethiopia, Kazakhstan, Zaire, Vietnam, China and Russia. Moreover, the company owns such brands as Iveco, Iveco Motors, Iveco Magirus, Astra, Seddon Atkinson and Irisbus.
Iveco model range and car models
The TurboStar tractor unit has been a top-of-the-range of trucks since 1984, which gained its popularity in Italy. In the end of the 80s the design, the gearbox and the engine of Iveco Daily were upgraded.
A new series of EURO trucks appears in the 90s: such as EuroCargo, EuroTech, EuroTrakker and EuroStar.
In 1998 these models started to be fitted with Cursor 8 and Cursor 10 engines with the common rail injection technology.
So, in 1996 Iveco purchases a fire-fighting subdivision Carniva S.A. as a result of the expansion of its production segment.
In 2003 a new truck Stralis with an Active Space cabin was introduced. Soon a new Trakker was released, too.
Realizing the ecological challenges and requirements, Iveco introduced a new Ecostralis in 2010 which was intended to decrease carbon dioxide emissions. New Daily and Stralis models have been and are produced in accordance with this eco-friendliness principle.
Iveco Commercial and Industrial Vehicle Subdivision produces heavy-duty, medium-duty and light-duty trucks for long-distance, regional and off-road transportations. The GVW varies from 2,8 to 44 tons. The trucks are equipped with gas engines, as well as hybrid and electric motor drives.
- DAILY is a light-duty truck with the GVW of 2,8-7 tons. The best variant for city roads due to its economical efficiency and mobility.
- EUROCARGO is a reliable medium-duty truck with the GVW of 6-19 tons fitted with Tector engines.
- STRALIS is the leader in the range of high-duty vehicles.
- TRAKKERis a tractor unit intended for off-road driving, usable at construction sites and in the fields.
Moreover, Iveco occupies the market niche manufacturing special trucks in cooperation with Magirus (a company, which produces fire-fighting trucks).
Iveco Astra subdivision has been working on the production of construction equipment and components for 65 years already. The trucks are specially designed to be able to operate in careers. To be more particular, the following models of trucks are being released today:
- HD9, which is a 2, 3 or 4-wheeled truck equipped with Cursor engines and enhanced chassis. The ergonomics level is quite high.
- HHD9 has been developed for heavy tasks. The GVW of the model is 50 tons (for the 6x6 modification) and 63 tons (for the 8x6 AWD modification). These trucks are fitted with Cursor 13 engines.
- ADT is an AWD truck intended for operation in harsh conditions of work (for example, in careers and at construction sites). This model is fitted with Cursor 13 engines, too, and enhanced chassis as well.
- RDis a truck with a rather standard construction with the 4x4 chassis type and the GVW of 28-50 tons. This model was developed for works in careers and for ground formation transportation. The model is notable for easiness in usage and low operational costs.
Iveco Defense Vehicles subdivision produces trucks for military purposes and for special service. The armored modifications of such vehicles are available, too.
Iveco (Irisbus) buses
The Buses Subdivision was known as Irisbus up till 2013.
City buses are presented by Daily (the production began in the 80s, and modernized models are being released today), Europolis (diesel, electrical and hybrid versions available; produced from 1996 till 2010), Citelis (available in France, Italy and the countries of Eastern Europe from 2005 till 2013), Crealis (produced since 2008). Iveco trolleybuses are imported by some European countries.
Coaches are presented by the following models: Midys, Recreo (a school bus with the Tector engine), Crossway (with the Cursor engine) and its low-floor modification Crossway LE, Arway (the first bus which managed to meet the eco-requirements Euro-4; appeared in 2005), Evadys (being produced at the French Iveco factory since 2005), GT Class (Grand Tourisme Class) Domino Buses (being produced in Italy since 2007) and Magelys (produced in 2007 for the first time; became the “Bus of the Year" in 2008). All of the buses are equipped with HI-eSCR EURO-6 eco-class engines and are notable for low operational costs.
