Driving this Atego tipper for 5 years on Irish backroads, it’s like a stubborn donkey: slow but never quits. The 7.7L engine is really tough as old boots, though hills make it wheeze like a pub regular. Tipper mechanism is faster than my teenage son waking for school. Cab’s basic but dry – seat’s harder than a priest’s handshake though.

We run five actros 2545 tippers for quarry work. The 450 HP engine handles 32-ton loads effortlessly, even on Alpine passes. Fuel economy is about 22-24L/100km which is better than our older Volvos. The Opticruise gearbox is smooth, but the exhaust brake could be stronger for downhill runs. Cab comfort 5/5 - i'd sayour drivers love the air-suspension seat and big fridge.

I bought a Mercedes Sprinter 317 with a 2.1 CDI engine and 170 HP for a transport company, and after a month of use, I'm very pleased. The car easily handles loads up to 3.5 tons, the gearbox is smooth, and the cabin is spacious and well-quiet, which I appreciate on longer trips.

I've been driving the Mercedes SK 1844 for almost 12 years in long-distance haulage, primarily with tank trucks on international assignments. Sure, it's old, but if you know how to handle it, it's a damn reliable machine. No electronic gadgets, all mechanical. I do the work myself, parts are cheap, and the V8 has a sound that makes today's plastic trucks envious. Fuel consumption isn't bad, but failure rate? Zero. For me, as a self-driver, it's a piece of freedom.
