What a typical asphalt paving fleet looks like

Asphalt milling machines, also known as cold planers, are used to remove part of or the entire thickness of an existing paved surface. These machines use massive, rotating drums fitted with carbide cutters to grind into and remove existing asphalt surfaces.

Asphalt pavers can use recycled or new material to pave new surfaces. These massive asphalt machines have large hoppers that are loaded with material. They then use an auger to stir and spread the hot material before the screed.

The paver's vibratory screed smooths and spreads the material across the surface, providing initial compaction and leaving a nearly finished surface.

Finally, an asphalt roller is used to add even more compaction to the surface and ensure no voids are left within the material.
