What is the difference between a flatbed and a dropside?

The main difference between a flatbed and a dropside truck is the cargo area design. A flatbed has a completely open, flat cargo area without any sides, while a dropside truck has sides that can be lowered, making it easier to load and unload cargo from multiple sides. Dropside trucks offer more containment and security compared to flatbeds, making them more suitable for certain types of cargo.

How to secure cargo on a dropside truck?

To secure cargo on a dropside truck, use tie-downs such as straps, ropes, or chains to hold the cargo in place. Ensure the load is evenly distributed and use wheel chocks or blocks for added stability. Attach tie-downs to fixed anchor points on the truck and cargo, tightening them to prevent shifting during transit. Consider using a tarp or netting for added protection against the elements.

What types of dropside trucks exist?

There are various types of dropside trucks, including standard models with fixed sides that lower for easier loading, and models with removable sides for flexibility in transporting larger items. Some dropsides feature hydraulic systems for automatic lowering, while others vary in size and load capacity. Smaller dropside trucks are ideal for urban deliveries, while larger models are used for construction or industrial applications.
