Question 1

How does the JCB 3CX Backhoe Loader function as a dual-purpose machine?

Accepted Answer

The JCB 3CX is engineered as a versatile, dual-purpose unit with distinct functionalities at each end. The front features a loader arm with a shovel attachment, designed for material handling, loading, and site clearing. The rear is equipped with an excavator-style boom, dipper, and bucket for trenching, digging foundations, and other excavation tasks, making it a single-asset solution for multiple job site requirements.

Question 2

What security and diagnostic information does JCB LiveLink provide?

Accepted Answer

JCB LiveLink is a telematics system providing critical security and diagnostic data. For security, it offers real-time GPS location tracking, unauthorized movement alerts, and the ability to set up geofences. Diagnostically, it remotely monitors engine hours, service schedules, fuel levels, and critical machine alerts or diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), allowing for preventative maintenance and reduced downtime.

Question 3

What are the VAT implications for EU buyers purchasing UK-made JCB units?

Accepted Answer

Following Brexit, the purchase of UK-manufactured JCB equipment by an EU-based business is treated as an import. This means the buyer does not pay UK VAT, but they are liable for import VAT at their own country's standard rate upon the machine's entry into the EU. A formal customs declaration is required, and the transaction must be correctly documented for tax purposes, often necessitating the use of a customs broker.

Question 4

How can I check for boom play on a used JCB telehandler listed on Truck1?

Accepted Answer

To assess boom play on a used JCB Loadall, request the seller to provide a video inspection. The video should show the boom being fully extended and then retracted, and raised and lowered from minimum to maximum height. Ask for close-up footage of the main boom pivot points, extension cylinder pins, and the attachment headstock while it is being tilted and crowded to visually identify any significant looseness or gaps, which indicate wear in the pins and bushings.
