Question 1

What types of truck mounted aerial platforms exist?

Accepted Answer

There are several types of truck-mounted aerial platforms including telescopic boom lifts, articulated boom lifts, vertical mast lifts, and scissor lifts. These platforms are mounted on the bed of a large truck and can be used for a variety of tasks including maintenance work, construction, and tree trimming.

Question 2

How much does a truck mounted aerial platform cost?

Accepted Answer

The cost of a truck mounted aerial platform can range widely depending on the size, specifications, and brand. The prices can start as low as $20,000 for a used or smaller model and can go up to $200,000 or more for new and larger models.

Question 3

How to choose the truck mounted aerial platform?

Accepted Answer

Choosing a truck mounted aerial platform depends on several factors:

1. Height and Reach: Determine how high you need to reach and how far horizontally. This will help you choose the right size and type of platform.

2. Load Capacity: Consider the weight of the workers and their equipment. Make sure the platform has the appropriate load capacity.

3. Terrain: If you will use the platform on uneven or rough terrains, choose a truck mounted platform with good stability and off-road capabilities.

4. Size of the Truck: The size of the truck is an important factor for maneuverability and access to confined spaces. Smaller trucks are easier to maneuver but may have a smaller platform and less reach.

5. Power Source: Most platforms are either electric, diesel, or hybrid. Electric is quieter and cleaner but may lack the power of a diesel engine.

6. Safety Features: Look for safety features such as guardrails, harness points, and emergency descent mechanisms.

7. Budget: Consider the cost of the platform and whether it would be more cost-effective to buy or rent, depending on how often you will use it.

8. Legal Requirements: Check the legal requirements in your area for operating such equipment. Some may require special licenses or permits.

Remember to also consider the reliability of the manufacturer and their after-sales service.

Question 4

What is the primary safety factor in aerial platform operation?

Accepted Answer

The primary safety factor in aerial platform operation is ensuring the stability of the platform at all times to prevent any accidents or falls. This involves proper setup, regular maintenance and inspection, safe load management, and proper training for the operators.

Question 5

What is the difference between a boom lift and an aerial lift?

Accepted Answer

A boom lift is a type of aerial lift. The term "aerial lift" is an umbrella term that encompasses various types of mechanized access equipment, such as boom lifts, scissor lifts, and bucket trucks. Boom lifts are characterized by an hydraulic arm that can move both vertically and horizontally, providing a great degree of flexibility, while other types of aerial lifts may have different features and capabilities.
